Seaneen Tait
Seaneen Tait is a highly accomplished and original
young
painter, who also applies her talents
as a freelance textile
designer and teacher of design and fabric printing.
In
2000 she graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts (Distinction
in Painting) from Meadowbank College of the Arts, in Sydney. In
2004, a further 2 years’ study gained her the Advanced Diploma of
Fashion Design at the East Sydney Design School.
Seaneen’s
paintings are built up layer upon layer, and her versatility in
painting and textile design enables her to achieve subtle variations
of colour, form, sheen and texture, that vary with changing viewpoints
and light. Her two previous Solo Exhibitions at Harris Courtin Gallery, in
August 2004 and May 2006, were highly successful.
Her work has been eagerly acquired by collectors here
in Australia - including the Mathematics
Department, University of New South Wales - London, New
York, Bangkok and Ireland, and she has undertaken a
number of large private commissions. She has shown her
work in Group Exhibitions since 1998, including Tap
Gallery and Tin Sheds Gallery. In 2005 and again in 2007 her work was
chosen to be exhibited in the Annual Packsaddle
Exhibition at the New England Regional Art Museum.
Harris Courtin Gallery has represented her since 2000.
In 2000, Seaneen’s Lecturer in Painting at Meadowbank College
said:
"...Seaneen Tait is doing some of the most interesting and daring work
I’ve seen among students. She has an unusual natural capacity to
recognise extreme subtlety in composition and the value and strength
in understatement ....Uncluttered and precise, her work gains power
from the exercise of this integrity and restraint....As an artist she
is deeply motivated, independent and deeply engaged in her subject and
practice...."
