Ghasan Saaid
Ghasan, born in 1973, graduated with
First Class Honours in Painting from the College of
Fine and Applied Arts, Sudan University of Science and
Technology, Khartoum in 1995. He then taught Fine Arts
at the Al-Ahfad University in Sudan, and also applied
his talents to Theatre and Dance. In December 2005 he
graduated - with distinction - in the Advanced Diploma
in Fine Art (2003-2005), from The Gallery School,
Sydney. He is currently enrolled in a Masters Degree at
Sydney College of the Arts.
Before emigrating to Australia in 1998
he exhibited extensively overseas - in Sudan, Syria,
Jordan, Nairobi, Paris and London. In Sydney, he has
had five Solo Exhibitions at Harris Courtin Gallery
since 2000 and will exhibit again in July 2007. Ghasan
returned to Sudan in 2004 and 2006 and held successful
Solo shows at various galleries and Cultural
Institutions.
His unique style has been greatly
appreciated by the hundreds of collectors who have
purchased his work, in Australia and overseas. Ghasan’s
paintings use colourful symbols that combine the
esoteric with images drawn from daily life.
In his own words:
"I
am constantly attempting to paint real life, which
happens and revolves around the secretive and obscure
relationship between the individual, the group, and the
environment they live in. This is the life that takes
place in the half-light and it constitutes the motives
of the image that I want to reflect. I am trying to
explore the physical production of the artwork
through the use of an abstract and symbolic outlet. I
create a number of inhabited and fractioned cells, and
their interaction produces a multitude of life games -
sometimes a simple story, sometimes a journey and
sometimes an enigma with an infinite number of possible
meanings...."
His paintings are in Collections that

Dept.); Zaf Centre for Plastic Art, Istanbul;
