Gabrielle Jones

Gabrielle Jones’ work has been increasingly recognised for the originality and sensitivity that she brings to her landscapes, which were described by the eminent artist Charles Blackman as “… full of shining light, radiant…[she] lets the inner things – her soul – come into her paintings [and] evokes feelings from the viewer…”  and more recently by the Art Critic Jeff Makin who wrote: “Gabrielle Jones does have something different to say about the landscape…Jones’ tone [creates]…a particularly ethereal quality, and a landscape for contemplation”   Herald Sun Feb. 2007

Since graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School Sydney, Gabrielle has won the Brentwood Acquisitive; the ANU Tanner Lecture Series; and the Northbridge Art Prizes; was a finalist in the Inaugural Art on the Rocks; the Fleurieu Peninsula Biennale Art Prize, S.A; the Portia Geach Memorial Portrait Prize at the S.H. Ervin Gallery, Sydney; the Mosman Art Prize; the Waverley Art Prize (twice); the Paddington Art Prize; and the $5,000 Small Painting Prize, Avalon. She was also Highly Commended at Hills Grammar Art Show and awarded the William Fletcher Trust Grant for Talented Students – NSW Tertiary Institutions.

In  2005 Gabrielle was appointed Artist-in-Residence for the Arthur Boyd Bequest, Bundanon Trust, in New South Wales. She will take up artist’s residency at Le Meridien Hotel, Papeete, Tahiti in June 2007.

Her May 2007 Solo Exhibition - Gabrielle’s third at Harris Courtin Gallery - followed her very successful sell-out show in 2006, and her first solo in Melbourne earlier this year.
